Minor Atom Select (2003) Players Needed

All players born in 2003 are welcome to try out for the West Hill Minor Hockey Association Minor Atom Select Team. This will be a brand new team, and is made up of players from the Atom house league.

The Select hockey program is an opportunity for players to play hockey at a slightly higher level than just house league. All the players who played Select over the last few years have moved up to our GTHL “A” or “AA” teams. It’s a great opportunity.

We are looking for new players. We have had a few practices with 14 different players showing up, but we need more players and a firm commitment. We will play in the North York Select loop and games start right after Christmas, usually 1 game a week. We will be practicing on Sunday nights at Heron Park at 7:15 PM. That will be our regular practice time for the season. We will also be looking at entering up to 2 tournaments. The only guaranteed tourney right now is the Shamrock on Easter weekend March 29, 30 & 31.

The biggest drawback with the Select program is that the best players make the team, get extra ice time, coaching, experience and improve vastly over the house league players. The skill level difference between the players increases until the weaker players drop out. The coaching staff  want all players to continue enjoying their hockey experience right through their hockey playing years.

                           There Will Be No Cuts.

For those who don’t make the team, they are invited to attend all our practices and continue to work out with the team. Those players will play on our taxi squad and be called up if we are short players.

It takes time and money to ensure a successful season. The team is looking for a sponsor. If you know of a company that might be interested, the cost to sponsor the team is $500. However no sponsor will be turned away, any amount of sponsorship will go towards reducing the overall costs. This provides the players with team sweaters, socks and a team picture. Please advise any of the coaching staff if you know of an interested sponsor.

Cost for each player is estimated at $350. Cheques are payable to West Hill Minor Hockey and are due by Dec 31. In order to meet our budget, we may need to run a fundraiser. More details will follow.
